From shell to sanctuary: a total redesign in the heart of Chelsea

LOCATION: Chelsea, London SW3
DURATION: 13 months (on schedule). Delivered within budget.
KEY SERVICES:
Full house retrofit — double-storey rear extension and complete demolition and rebuild of the loft to create a new top-floor level.
A full-property transformation in Chelsea, reimagining a five-storey townhouse as a bright, modern and highly liveable family home.
The project included a complete internal reconfiguration and extensive structural works. The property was taken back to shell, with a double-storey rear extension added and the existing loft fully demolished and rebuilt to form a new top-floor level. The staircase was redesigned and repositioned throughout, improving flow and connection across all five floors.
The lower ground floor was excavated to increase ceiling height from 2.1m to 2.5m, creating a calm, informal lounge with direct access to the garden. Two front vaults were converted to form a utility space and plant room. The ground floor was opened up to create a generous open-plan kitchen and dining area—ideal for both everyday living and entertaining—with underfloor heating and new engineered herringbone flooring running across both levels.
The first floor was designed as a formal reception and living space. The second floor includes three well-proportioned bedrooms and two bathrooms, while the third floor now houses a peaceful master suite with ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Above, a full loft conversion adds further living space, complete with bespoke joinery throughout.
Fire compliance was achieved without compromise, using Envirograf fire-retardant paint to certify the original internal doors—preserving character while meeting modern safety standards.
Externally, the garden was landscaped with a new patio and steps, while a bespoke spiral staircase links upper and lower levels. All timber windows and French doors were replaced, and the house was fully decorated and finished throughout to a high standard.
